Alan Wake 2 Won’t be Released for Steam
Epic Games Founder/CEO Tim Sweeney has confirmed that Alan Wake 2 won’t be released on Steam and will continue to be exclusively available via Epic Games Store on PC.
Alan Wake 2 Steam – Epic Games Question
Despite rolling out in 2023, a year filled with several highly rated AAA releases, Alan Wake 2 successfully stood out from the competition and swept multiple award events, including winning three different recognitions at The Game Awards. Given that Epic Games Publishing funded Remedy’s ambitious Alan Wake sequel, the game’s PC port was launched as an Epic Games Store exclusive title.
According to 80 Level, Tim Sweeney has verified a viral email exchange with a fan in which he bluntly stated Alan Wake 2 is “not coming” to Steam when asked about a potential Steam launch in the future. The source doesn’t mention a statement where the Epic Games boss explicitly legitimizes the email, but it reveals that Sweeney wrote, “Thanks for checking,” and continued, “In general, one should not trust claimed email responses as they are super easy to fake.” On the other hand, the Reddit user who first posted the brief chat has also added weight to the email’s trustworthiness by sharing another instance where they received a reply from the CEO.
While Alan Wake 2 garnered plaudits from critics all over, it’s been a different story on the commercial side of things. Although the survival horror game is Remedy’s fastest selling title ever, it still surprisingly hasn’t generated a profit for the developer. In November 2024, the Finnish studio revealed Alan Wake 2 had recouped “most” of the money spent on the project but hadn’t yet reached break even. Importantly, that announcement wasn’t up to date with the game’s physical edition sales and the boost received from the Lake House DLC launched since then.
