Cyberpunk 2077’s Canceled Moon DLC Revealed
Cyberpunk 2077 had regained its strength over the years with major updates and the Phantom Liberty expansion. However, newly revealed information indicates that CD Projekt Red had much bigger plans for the game. It seems the studio considered preparing a second massive expansion pack for Cyberpunk 2077 after Phantom Liberty. Moreover, this DLC would have taken players far beyond Night City, directly to the Moon.
Planned Moon DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 Canceled
According to leaked information, the planned DLC would have taken players to a large lunar colony. Giant facilities filled with neon lights, luxury corporate resorts, and the idea of a mega-city built on Earth were at the heart of this expansion. The most striking aspects would have been low-gravity combat and cybernetic equipment specifically designed for space.
Actually, Cyberpunk 2077 already contained small references to the moon. Some billboards and side content seen in Night City had been hinting at this possibility for years. Therefore, the idea of a moon-themed expansion seemed quite exciting to many players.
However, it is reported that CD Projekt Red has shelved this project. There are said to be two main reasons behind this decision. First, instead of creating a new expansion on the same game engine after Phantom Liberty, they want to focus on the future of the series.
The second and more important reason is the new game in the series. The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Project Orion, is being developed with Unreal Engine 5. It is stated that CD Projekt Red canceled the moon DLC to allocate more resources to this project. So, this moon-themed idea hasn’t completely disappeared; it will most likely return in a much larger way in future Cyberpunk games.
