Electronic Arts discontinued 23 games in 2025
Electronic Arts has supported most of its games released over the last 20 years with online features. However, 2025 was one of the company’s busiest shutdown periods. A total of 23 games had their servers shut down, and while some continued to live on through fan servers, most are now history.
EA Shut Down Servers for 23 Games in 2025
The first shutdown of the year was Rory McIlroy’s PGA Tour on January 16th. This was followed by The Simpsons: Tapped Out on January 24th. The popular mobile game, which allowed players to build Springfield, was played by a loyal community for years despite criticisms of its microtransactions. Although players requested offline alternatives from EA after the shutdown, this did not happen.
On January 29th, seven mobile games were shut down simultaneously. February and March saw the closures of UFC 3, UFC Mobile 2, and NCAA 14. In June, Madden NFL 21 was shut down. The closures accelerated in the fall; in October and November, major titles like FIFA 23, Madden NFL 22, NHL 21, and Need for Speed: Rivals were discontinued. The final closure of the year was Grid (2019) on December 19th.
EA’s 2025 closure list once again demonstrates the limited timeframe for the company’s support of online gaming. It has already been announced that Anthem, The Sims Mobile, NBA Live 19, and Real Racing 3 will be shut down in 2026.
