God of War Laufey Announced
God of War Laufey finally brought to light the long-awaited rumors of a new game focusing on Faye. Announced at Sony’s June 2026 State of Play presentation, the game centers on Faye, Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother. The character, portrayed by returning actress Deborah Ann Woll, embarks on a completely different and mysterious journey after her death.
God of War Laufey Highlights Faye’s Story
The over 20-minute gameplay segment shown at the end of the presentation clearly demonstrated that God of War Laufey was more than just a brief announcement. Resembling the game’s opening moments, this segment showed Faye progressing through an afterlife, encountering creatures and characters from different mythologies. This suggests the series could expand into a broader mythological landscape without completely abandoning the Norse period.
The most noticeable difference in gameplay is Faye’s much faster and more fluid movement compared to Kratos. Unlike Kratos’s heavy and powerful combos, Faye appears to have a more agile, swift, and graceful fighting style. Despite this, the game still distinctly bears the Santa Monica signature with its cinematic storytelling, camera work, and close-combat feel.
The trailer also included brief glimpses of some boss battles. It’s particularly noticeable that Faye doesn’t experience a peaceful transition after death, but rather falls into a dark and dangerous struggle. In this respect, instead of directly continuing the story of Kratos and Atreus, the game may open a deeper window into their pasts and the unknown aspects of Faye.
For now, no release date or platform details have been fully shared for God of War Laufey. However, the long gameplay sequence shown reveals that the project is progressing seriously. If Santa Monica can combine this new character pace with strong storytelling, God of War Laufey could be one of the boldest side stories in the series.
