GTA 6 Comes Without Discs, but It’s Soundtrack is Sold on CD
As GTA 6 prepares for its November 19th release, the game’s physical release policy continues to be a topic of discussion among players. The previous revelation that the game would not be released on a physical disc sparked outrage, particularly among collectors. Now, Rockstar’s decision to release the game’s soundtrack on CD and vinyl has led to renewed questioning of this decision.
GTA 6 to be Released Without a Physical Disc
Rockstar has announced the official soundtrack album for GTA 6. Titled Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, the work will consist of 34 original tracks intended to reflect the atmosphere of Vice City and Leonida. The album features numerous well-known artists including Travis Scott, Morgan Wallen, Keith Richards, Future, Metro Boomin, and Rauw Alejandro.
The humorous aspect of the situation for gamers was the choice of physical media. While GTA 6 itself won’t be sold on physical disc, its soundtrack will be released in classic CD format. Standard and limited edition vinyl versions are also being prepared. The CD version is planned to sell for $20, the standard vinyl for $50, and the special edition for $125.
The limited edition is specifically aimed at collectors. The package will include two transparent magenta records filled with a blue liquid. The standard vinyl version will also feature different cover designs. Pre-orders for the album are open, and physical versions are scheduled to go on sale on November 20th, one day after the game’s release.
Naturally, gamers immediately noticed this contradiction. Rockstar’s decision not to release the game on disc but to produce CDs and vinyl for the soundtrack became the subject of numerous jokes on social media. Those who want to add a physical copy of GTA 6 to their collection won’t be able to, but they will be able to keep the game’s soundtrack album on their shelf. While this might be a commercially sound choice for Rockstar, it’s certainly a somewhat odd situation for collectors.
