ATOM RPG 2 will have a Brand New Structure

ATOM RPG 2 was revealed in playable form at Tokyo Game Show 2026, presenting a significantly different picture for those familiar with the first game. This time, AtomTeam hasn’t just created a larger sequel; they’ve drastically altered the core structure of the series. From perspective and map design to survival systems and transportation options, many aspects are being reworked.

ATOM RPG 2 Switches to a Third-Person Open World

The first ATOM RPG was a top-down role-playing game inspired by classics like Fallout and Wasteland. ATOM RPG 2 completely abandons this system, switching to a third-person perspective. Players will directly control their characters and step into a much larger, freely explorable open world.

At the heart of the new structure are survival mechanics. Players will be able to craft items, build structures, manage their inventories, and track various needs such as temperature, energy, thirst, and injuries. Hunting and fishing will also be part of the system. Thus, the game moves beyond being a classic RPG that progresses only through quests, transforming into a broader survival experience.

The size of the map is also one of the most striking aspects of this change. The development team says the game will feature a world of approximately 1,225 square kilometers, reminiscent of the Caspian Sea. This area, divided into different biomes, can be explored solo or supports cooperative gameplay for up to four players. The team is even considering the possibility of a structure that could accommodate up to 100 players on the same map in the future, but this is currently just a potential future plan.

Transportation is also extensive. Players will be able to ski, find and operate vehicles, customize their cars, and even use tanks in later levels. AtomTeam co-founder Dmytro Martynenko says that one of the main reasons for switching to a third-person camera system is to offer a more authentic experience and reach new players. ATOM RPG 2, in short, is preparing to feel less like a direct sequel to the first game and more like a completely different game set in the same universe.
