Remedy Renews Alan Wake’s Return Brand After 10 Years
Alan Wake’s Return is an interesting name from Remedy Entertainment’s past. The studio first applied for this trademark in 2016, after which Sam Lake clarified that it wasn’t a new game and was being used to protect a video series within Quantum Break. Now, the old trademark registration has expired, and Remedy has filed a new application for the same name.
New Trademark Application Filed for Alan Wake’s Return
The first point that stands out is that Remedy waited for the old trademark to expire and filed a new application instead of directly renewing it. Moreover, it is stated that the company received a notification regarding renewal in 2025. Therefore, it is not yet clear whether the new application was made solely to protect the old content or whether there are other plans.
The fact that some categories have changed in the new application also increases curiosity. The toy category, which was present in the 2016 registration, has been replaced with printed materials and apparel. While the multimedia services category has been retained, the scope for digital content and software appears to have been made more detailed. These changes suggest that the brand may be preparing for a broader range of uses.
Interestingly, Remedy has been working for some time on expanding the Alan Wake and Control brands to different media. As part of its agreement with Annapurna, the company plans to utilize these universes in film and television. Therefore, the possibility that the name Alan Wake’s Return is directly linked to another media project rather than a new game is also on the table.
On the other hand, it’s also possible that this is one of the first steps towards a completely new Alan Wake game. However, Remedy has not yet announced such a project, and the trademark application alone does not confirm this. Considering that Sam Lake himself had to make a statement when expectations rose for the same title in 2016, it wouldn’t be surprising if a similar statement came this time for Alan Wake’s Return.
