Fortnite has Added in-Match Arcade Games
Fortnite continues to expand its video game-themed season with new content. In addition to the Kingdom Hearts collaboration, a new arcade area has been added to the map. Interestingly, these machines aren’t just for decoration. It’s possible to play mini-games directly in some of the booths while a match is in progress.
Five Different Arcade Games Can Be Played in Fortnite
The new arcade is located next to the Five Nights at Freddy’s pizzeria on the map. While there are many arcade machines inside, not all of them are active. Currently, the five playable mini-games are Volley, Meteors, Block Busters, Boost Ball, and Time Waster.
Some of these games are quite reminiscent of classic arcade titles. Volley works almost directly with Pong logic, while Block Busters has a Breakout-style structure. Meteors, with its Asteroids-like gameplay, will be quite familiar to players who know old arcade halls. Epic Games has adapted classic ideas to the Fortnite universe by changing the names and visual designs.
The funny thing is, these mini-games aren’t played in a safe menu or a separate mode. The arcade machines are directly within the active battle royale match. So if another player enters while you’re chasing a high score, you may have to interrupt your game and return to the fight. Otherwise, a few seconds of nostalgia can quickly result in elimination.
The update also added the entire Kingdom Hearts collaboration to the game. Characters like Sora, Kairi, Riku, and Roxas are now usable in Fortnite. However, the arcade side is one of the smaller but more fun surprises of the update. Fortnite’s ability to play classic arcade games in the middle of a match once again shows how much different content Epic Games can cram into the main battle royale structure.
