Wardogs Earned More Money in Just One Week Than the Entire Marathon Combined
Wardogs managed to be one of the biggest surprises of September. Developed by Bulkhead, the game brought together hundreds of thousands of players on Steam upon its release and achieved very strong sales figures. Now, new estimates show that the game has surpassed many large live service games not only in player numbers but also in revenue.
Wardogs May Have Reached $70 Million in Revenue in Its First Week
According to estimates shared by Alinea Analytics, Wardogs sold approximately 2.2 million copies in its first week. The game reached over 400,000 concurrent players on Steam over the weekend, and it is estimated that approximately 1.6 million unique players logged in within 24 hours on its busiest day. It should be noted that these are not official sales figures and are based on the analytics company’s estimates.
The most striking figure, however, is on the revenue side. According to the same analysis, Wardogs generated approximately $70 million in revenue in just seven days. This figure reportedly surpasses the estimated total revenue of Bungie’s Marathon over approximately six months. Furthermore, while Marathon was sold on multiple platforms, Wardogs is currently only available on PC.
The comparison doesn’t stop there. Wardogs’ estimated first-week sales of 2.2 million copies exceed the approximately 1.7 million copies reached by Arc Raiders in the same period. Helldivers 2 sold approximately 1 million copies in its initial launch period. Therefore, Bulkhead’s game may have had one of the strongest launches in the live-service market in recent years.
Nevertheless, Wardogs’ first week wasn’t entirely smooth sailing. Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer’s comments regarding the intense work schedule drew criticism. While Brammer later stated that employees weren’t obligated to participate in this process, he acknowledged that social pressure within the team may have caused discomfort. While Wardogs’ sales performance looks impressive, only the coming months will show whether this startup is sustainable in the long term.
