GTA 6 Extended Look May Have Cost Netflix a Fortune
As the countdown continues for the GTA 6 Extended Look, the cost of the Netflix deal behind the event is now making headlines. We previously reported on the GTA 6 Extended Look announcement, revealing that the screening would begin on August 27th and would be exclusive to Netflix for the first few hours. Now, estimates suggest that even this short-lived exclusive broadcast may have generated a significant amount of money for Rockstar Games and Take-Two.
How Much Did GTA 6 Extended Look Cost Netflix?
According to Tom Henderson, an insider, Netflix may have paid Rockstar Games a very high price to have GTA 6 footage broadcast exclusively on their platform for a few hours. Henderson believes the deal could have generated revenue equivalent to over 1 million sales of the game. While not confirmed, there are also claims that the Netflix screening will last 20 minutes.
Considering the standard version of GTA 6 costs $80, this figure points to approximately $80 million. However, this isn’t based on actual game sales revenue, but rather on a licensing or exclusive streaming fee that may have been paid directly by Netflix. It’s speculated that Take-Two may not have agreed to such a large-scale promotion for a small fee in exchange for just a few hours of exclusive access.
There’s even been speculation that the deal could have exceeded $100 million. However, currently, Netflix, Rockstar Games, or Take-Two have not made any official statements regarding the financial details of the agreement. Therefore, the $80-$100 million range should be considered industry estimates, not confirmed information.
We previously compiled all the details about the presentation itself in our “Everything We Know About the GTA 6 Extended Look” article. The event will take place on August 27th and will be available on YouTube after the initial six-hour Netflix exclusive. Pre-orders for GTA 6 have reportedly started strongly, but Take-Two hasn’t shared exact figures. If the GTA 6 Extended Look deal actually approaches $100 million, the game will have started generating massive revenue from marketing partnerships alone, even before its release.
