Recent leaks have revealed quite a bit about GTA 6 early on, but this time the details come from an official preview. The new information confirms that the game will feature working social media feeds, and that this system won’t just be a decorative background feature. Players will be able to follow the internet culture of Leonida directly through their phones.
GTA 6 Makes Social Media a Real Part of Gameplay
The first GTA 6 trailer featured people dancing on cars, people dealing with crocodiles, and many short clips reminiscent of viral videos. At the time, many players speculated that these might belong to an in-game social media platform. The new preview largely confirms this theory, stating that working social media feeds are indeed present in the game.
Interestingly, the system won’t just be about endlessly scrolling through videos. Players will be able to follow the careers of celebrities rising in Leonida, see how their posts spread, and witness some content going viral. This suggests that social media could work directly in conjunction with events and characters in the open world.
It’s not yet entirely clear how far Rockstar has taken this system. For example, it hasn’t been revealed whether Jason or Lucia will be able to actively use their own accounts, react to posts, or whether content seen on social media will lead to new activities. However, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the phone will be a more central tool in GTA 6.
This confirmation, along with the previously announced weight and muscle system, shows that Rockstar wants to connect the characters and the world more tightly. On one hand, there’s Jason and Lucia physically changing, and on the other, a constantly living digital Leonida… It seems that GTA 6’s open world will continue to live not only on the streets but also on the screens in the characters’ pockets.
