The World’s Smallest Tamagotchi Fits on Your Finger
Thirty years have passed since the first Tamagotchi was released. These digital pets, which became a phenomenon in the late 90s, are now returning in a very different form. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the series, Bandai has introduced the smallest Tamagotchi model ever produced, transforming the device directly into a ring.
Tamagotchi Ring: 30 Years of History Fit into a Tiny Ring
The new product is called the Tamagotchi Ring and is designed to be small enough to wear on a finger. According to information shared by Famitsu, pre-orders have already begun in Japan. The price is 7,700 yen, which is just under $50. The device measures only 28 mm, almost half the size of the first chained Tamagotchi models released in 1996.
Bandai’s main point here isn’t just that they’ve designed a small product. The company has managed to fit the technology needed for the color LCD screen Tamagotchi models from 2008 into a much smaller body. It’s stated that this is achieved by using fewer parts in the new model. In fact, the Tamagotchi Ring is said to have the fewest parts of any Tamagotchi model with an LCD screen.
This tiny ring features a total of 30 different characters, all selected from the series’ past. So the product isn’t just a new toy, but also a small tribute to the brand’s 30-year history. Classic characters like Mametchi and Kuchipatchi are also returning. Moreover, despite the tiny 0.56-inch screen, these characters appear much more detailed and colorful compared to previous models.
The Tamagotchi Ring is available in three different colors: pink-pearl white, black-metallic silver, and blue-metallic gold. Although it’s currently only being launched in Japan, that doesn’t mean it’s unavailable in other countries. Meccha Japan, which ships Japanese products worldwide, has already started listing all three models.
Of course, the price is slightly higher when purchased through a third-party store. For those wishing to order from outside Japan, the cost can increase by approximately $30. Nevertheless, this ring looks set to become a very special collector’s item, especially for those who spent their childhood with Tamagotchi. This tiny device, which combines nostalgia with technology, is a truly fitting addition to anniversary celebrations.
