GTA 6 will Plunge Players Into a Much More Ruthless World of Crime

New information shared following Rockstar Games’ Extended Look presentation indicates significant changes to GTA 6’s crime system. According to Rob Nelson of Rockstar North, players will have to make far more decisions compared to GTA 5. This structure, while approaching Red Dead Redemption 2’s more cautious gameplay in some aspects, aims to make the player truly think like a criminal.

GTA 6 Will Require You to Calculate Risks When Committing Crimes

GTA 6 will Plunge Players Into a Much More Ruthless World of Crime

One of the examples Nelson gave directly relates to the car theft system. In previous games, stopping a passing car and pulling the driver out was often a quick and easy solution. In GTA 6, however, such an action could lead the driver to call the police, resulting in a much bigger problem for the player.

Therefore, players may need to opt for quieter methods. For example, finding and unlocking a parked car in a deserted area might be safer than pulling someone out of a car in the middle of the street. This is precisely where Rockstar’s aim becomes clear: how the crime is committed will be as important as the crime itself.

Car theft will no longer be a one-touch mechanic. It’s stated that unlocking expensive cars, in particular, may require different equipment, and in some cases, small mini-games may come into play. Thus, stealing a high-value vehicle will require more preparation than stealing an ordinary car.

This system doesn’t seem to be limited to vehicles. Players will make more decisions throughout the story, and these choices may have an impact on progression. This includes the relationship between Jason and Lucia; The two don’t have to be a romantic couple, but they’ll continue to look out for each other no matter the circumstances.

Rockstar’s goal here isn’t to constantly punish the player, but to make them act like a more conscientious criminal. In GTA 6, stealing every car, getting into every shootout, or taking every risk might not be the most sensible option. This could transform the series’ usual chaos into a more planned and tense crime experience.
