Hayden Christensen has received a strong response from Star Wars fans in recent years by returning to the roles of Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader. Now, the actor, who has rejoined the universe as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka, is rumored to have signed a new deal with Disney and Lucasfilm encompassing multiple projects. The most striking part of the rumor is the claim that this deal may include a standalone Darth Vader film.
First Rumors Emerge for Star Wars: Darth Vader Film
According to claims circulating on social media, Lucasfilm is in the early stages of development for a Star Wars: Darth Vader film. It is also claimed that Hayden Christensen will star in the project. However, it should be specifically noted that this information has not yet been confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm. At this stage, there is no official announcement, only a rumor that is gradually spreading.
There’s a lot of narrative space a film like this could exploit. While the prequel trilogy depicted Anakin Skywalker’s transformation into Darth Vader, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series showed the character during the Imperial era. However, there are many untold events between and after these two periods. This makes a standalone Vader film a storyline feasible.
Christensen himself has previously stated his pleasure at returning to the character. He specifically mentioned that the Vader scenes in Obi-Wan Kenobi were important to him and that he enjoyed adding new pieces to the transition between Anakin and Vader. He also described his return in Ahsoka as an opportunity he had long desired but hadn’t realized he had.
Lucasfilm currently has no officially announced film plans for Star Wars: Darth Vader. Therefore, it wouldn’t be accurate to consider the rumor a confirmed project. However, given Christensen’s return to the Star Wars universe, Ahsoka’s appearance in season two, and the continued fan interest, a Vader-centric film wouldn’t be surprising in the future.
