Speaking as part of Famitsu’s 40th-anniversary special content, Tetsuya Nomura said that Kingdom Hearts is the most memorable series for him. Nomura stated that the series has become his “work of a life” over time. This statement is noteworthy, especially considering his significant role on the Final Fantasy 7 side. Because although Nomura has many important projects in his career, it is clear that Kingdom Hearts holds a special place in his personal life.

Nomura also stated that he didn’t initially imagine the series would evolve into such a long journey. Indeed, Kingdom Hearts began as an unusual idea bringing together Disney and Square Enix characters. However, over the years, it has transformed into a massive brand with its own mythology, character drama, timeline, and loyal fanbase. Therefore, even during periods of silence, player interest never completely waned.

The director said that many ideas discussed with Disney have become reality over time, and the series has become a veritable “land of dreams and magic.” These words demonstrate that Kingdom Hearts is seen not just as a commercial project, but as a creative world spanning many years. Nomura’s statement that he still has things he wants to do with the series is also a significant sign of confidence for fans.

Regarding Kingdom Hearts 4, it’s emphasized that new experiments will be conducted. The previously shown Build System and possible new Disney worlds suggest that the game could open up to different mechanics while maintaining the classic structure of the series. Nomura’s previous statement that this game might mark the end of Sora’s journey makes Kingdom Hearts 4 not just a new sequel, but a critical chapter that will determine the future of the series.
