Konami Announces New RPG Rev. NOiR for PS5
Rev. NOiR was surprisingly announced at the State of Play event in February, finally revealing Konami’s long-awaited new role-playing project. Developed for PlayStation 5, Rev. NOiR garnered attention with its first trailer, showcasing both its visual tone and its emphasis on classic JRPG values. While a release date hasn’t been officially announced yet, the project is officially in development.
What Kind of Game Will Rev. NOiR Be?
The game is being developed by Nobuki Kadoi, who previously worked on projects such as Drakengard 2, Gunslinger Stratos, and Lord of Vermillion. Kadoi specifically emphasized that the game will be based on classic JRPG values. Companionship, character development, and emotional moments will be central to the story.
On the story side, a deadly natural phenomenon called “lightfall” stands out. This phenomenon, accompanied by light, destroys everything it touches. A lonely boy with amnesia and a mysterious girl set out to stop this catastrophe. However, as their journey progresses, a larger picture emerges that questions not only the world but also the concept of fate.
The atmosphere seen in the trailer suggests a dark and melancholic tone. The question of whether divine destiny or human will will shape the world forms the central conflict of the narrative. Konami aims to explore the fine line between hope and destruction with a dramatic narrative.
While the content shared for Rev. NOiR is limited for now, the released teaser has managed to pique curiosity in terms of both visual aesthetics and narrative potential. More details are expected to be revealed in the coming months, and it has already positioned itself as one of the projects to watch for JRPG fans.
