Mario Kart Tour, one of the best-known titles in Nintendo’s mobile gaming initiative, is now approaching its final stages. After a long period of silence regarding new content, the official closing date for the game has been announced. Known for offering a true Mario Kart experience on mobile, the game has garnered a large player base over the years, but is now preparing to completely fade into history.
Mario Kart Tour Closing Date Announced
According to Nintendo’s announcement, Mario Kart Tour will completely close on September 29th. The company thanked players who have supported the game since its inception, and announced the end of the service with a short and clear statement. Although the game has entered its closing period, players will be able to continue participating in races and using existing content until the specified date.
With the game’s closure, changes were also made to in-game purchases. Rubies, the game’s premium currency, are no longer for sale, although previously purchased rubies can be redeemed until the game’s closure. Automatic Gold Pass renewals have been stopped, and new subscriptions are now prevented. However, all players will have free access to the August and September Gold Pass content.
When Mario Kart Tour was released in 2019, it garnered attention for offering a strong Nintendo experience on mobile devices. However, the game remained the target of criticism for a long time due to its gacha-based structure and the use of paywalls for some content. The fact that the 200cc speed mode was restricted to a paid subscription was one of the most criticized aspects by players.
Over time, Mario Kart Tour was supported by new tracks, character rotations, and special events, but it remained somewhat in the background of Nintendo’s mobile game strategy. The game’s closure has also created new expectations regarding the future of some tracks exclusive to the series.
