October 24 will mark the first anniversary of Konami’s inaugural wave of MGS remasters reaching PC and consoles. Rumors about Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2 have been circulating the internet since before the original bundle hit the market.

Konami has now confirmed that the second part of the bundle is indeed in the works, with the MGS series producer Noriaki Okamura saying as much during the latest episode of the Metal Gear Production Hotline web series (via TheGamer).

But currently the project is in an early stage of development, with Konami itself still being in the process of figuring out how to approach it. Some of the challenges that the company is currently facing concern the lack of a clear and obvious starting point that it had with Volume 1, not least because both MGS2 and MGS3: Snake Eater had pre-existing HD ports that Konami was able to use and repurpose.

Since the subsequent games prior to Phantom Pain haven’t been modernized, the Japanese company is still trying to figure out how best to tackle Volume 2 and how long its development might take. Okamura said it’s going to be “a little while” until these questions are answered and Konami is able to share more information about the project.

The September 10 video also the producer reveal that the MGS Master Collection: Vol. 1 launch issues are still fresh on Konami’s mind. “We’re also worried about how Vol. 1 had a pretty rough launch with all the issues, so we are going to do everything we can not to repeat that,” Okamura said, all the while asking fans for patience.

The first volume of the bundle required multiple updates spread out over five months until the majority of its most jarring problems, including bugged analog controls and severe performance issues, were fixed. The latest of these patches debuted in the form of the 1.5.0 update, which rolled out back in mid-March 2024. Konami said that even more Metal Gear Solid Master Collection fixes were in the works at the time. As for the second volume of the bundle, fans have long been clamoring for it because it’s expected to finally free MGS4: Guns of the Patriots from the confines of the PS3. Vol. 2 is also likely to include MGS: Portable Ops and Peace Walker.
