PlayStation Announces New Policy Against Customer Harassment

Sony has released its new core policy on customer harassment via its official PlayStation support page in Japan. The policy covers user behavior towards PlayStation employees and specifically outlines measures to be taken against threats, insults, discrimination, excessive demands, and situations that endanger employee safety. Sony emphasizes that while it supports customer feedback, the dignity and safety of employees must also be protected.

PlayStation May Restrict Customer Support in Cases of Harassment

According to the new policy, PlayStation reserves the right to restrict or completely suspend customer service when it deems necessary to protect employee safety. In serious cases, Sony will not only take internal measures but may also cooperate with the police, lawyers, and other relevant institutions.

The company also shared examples of behaviors that could be considered customer harassment. These include repetitive or prolonged demands, unreasonable expectations of compensation and apologies, profanity, threats, and defamation. Requests unrelated to the product or service may also fall under the policy.

Sony’s list also includes discriminatory or sexual behavior, personal attacks on employees, and intimidating attitudes. Forcing an employee to behave in a demeaning manner or exerting pressure on individual staff members is also considered unacceptable behavior.

PlayStation also prohibits customers from going to company offices or related facilities without permission to request meetings or assistance. Sony specifically notes that the examples shared are not a definitive or exhaustive list. The main goal of the new policy is not to prevent customer complaints, but rather to create a more sustainable communication environment where support staff can perform their duties without being threatened or harassed.
