Crimson Desert: Chartering the Unknown Announced
Crimson Desert: Chartering the Unknown was one of the surprise announcements of the September 2026 State of Play event. Introduced as Crimson Desert’s first major expansion, it’s set to add new gameplay mechanics on top of the extensive systems offered in the main game. The trailer shows older versions of Kliff and his crew after the main story, giving the impression that the expansion takes place in a period after the events of the main game.
Crimson Desert: Chartering the Unknown Will Bring New Mechanics
Although the trailer for the new expansion is short, it showcased many different gameplay innovations. Among these, underwater exploration, base building, and naval combat stand out. In particular, the scenes of Kliff navigating underwater with a shark indicate that the exploration system will be extended to a much wider area than just land-based exploration.
Crimson Desert is already known for its numerous different mechanics in the main game. Chartering the Unknown seems to expand on this structure even further. The trailer briefly showed some new moves and improvements to the existing combat system, but exactly how they will work hasn’t been explained in detail yet.
The presentation also included a short scene focusing on character relationships. It’s speculated that this might hint at a romantic relationship system, but this feature hasn’t been officially confirmed. Whether this system, absent from the main game, will be added to the expansion will become clear in future announcements.
The announced release date for Crimson Desert: Chartering the Unknown is October 15, 2026. Therefore, players won’t have to wait too long to see the new content.
