A Fan-made, Massive Act 2 Expansion for Baldur’s Gate 3 has Arrived

Although Baldur’s Gate 3 consists of three acts, the size of these sections was never equal. Act 2, in particular, has long been a subject of debate among players due to its more limited area compared to the first and third acts. Now, a mod developer has decided to fill this gap and added a much more extensive new region to the second act.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 2 Expands with Chionthar Wilds

Developed by Nexus Mods user SquallyDaBeanz, Act 2 Expansion – Custom Campaign adds a completely new region called Chionthar Wilds to the second act of Baldur’s Gate 3. The new area includes locations to explore, quests, NPCs, dungeons, and numerous combat encounters. The content is designed to be consistent with the main story.

To access the new adventure, the curse on the Shadow-Cursed Lands must be lifted. Normally, the exit that leads players to Baldur’s Gate opens to the Chionthar Wilds region when the mod is installed. After completing the new content, players can return to the main story from here and continue their journey towards the third act.

The mod developer’s goal is to create a new exploration area that approaches the size of the Wilderness region in Act 1. The content is specifically designed for groups between levels 8 and 10, focusing on exploration and combat. The region features over 30 different conflicts. New NPCs are also present, but voice acting for the characters has not yet been prepared.

Following Larian Studios’ official mod support, custom stories for Baldur’s Gate 3 are becoming increasingly extensive. Previously, projects inspired by Astarion, such as A Dream of Silence and Curse of Strahd, emerged. Path to Menzoberranzan, currently under development, is one of the largest projects in this area. Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 2 Expansion stands apart from other projects by expanding what feels like the shortest part of the existing game.
