Son of Thanjai Announced

Developed by Ayelet Studio, Son of Thanjai aims to offer players a personal and political story set in a historical South Indian atmosphere. In the game, we will control a Chola king overshadowed by his father’s great legacy. Returning to Thanjavur, the character will have to confront the changing city order, growing unrest, and threats to his throne.

Son of Thanjai Will Combine Combat and Stealth

Melee combat will play a significant role in Son of Thanjai’s gameplay. Players will be able to wield a whip-sword called Surulvaal and engage in fluid combat inspired by the Kalarippayattu martial art. It will be possible to chain different attacks, disarm enemies, and use special finishing moves.

The game doesn’t focus solely on direct combat. Sneaking into enemy camps, interrogating targets, and gathering crucial information will also be part of the gameplay. Players will be able to ride various animals within the city, such as horses, elephants, and bulls, and blend into crowds to approach targets undetected.

The world design emphasizes a historical atmosphere. Thanjavur streets, temples, ceremonies, classical dances, and various elements from traditional Tamil culture will be recreated. Players will be able to interact with different NPCs such as priests, farmers, merchants, and fishermen, and the characters’ reactions to the player will vary depending on their behavior.

Son of Thanjai will be released in Spring 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. The PC version will be available on Steam and the Microsoft Store, and the game will also be added to the Game Pass library. Combining a historical atmosphere with cinematic storytelling, this game could be a compelling option, especially for those who enjoy action-adventure games centered on different eras and cultures.
