Xbox Finally Unveils Gears of War E-Day Controller
The previously leaked special Xbox Wireless Controller for Gears of War E-Day has finally been officially unveiled. The game is releasing on October 6th, but the controller will be available a little earlier, on September 30th. The design is directly inspired by the destruction of Emergence Day and has a much more aggressive look than the standard Xbox controller.
What does the Gears of War E-Day Controller offer?
The controller’s surface features 3D molded and laser-etched details reminiscent of cracked asphalt. Beneath the glowing red cracks is the series’ iconic Crimson Omen symbol. The ABXY buttons are completely blacked out, while the X button is designed in transparent red. The triggers are also red.
The D-pad again uses transparent material. A dark silver metallic COG sticker is placed on the battery cover on the back. The “Never Fight Alone” message here directly refers to the series’ team spirit. Textured surfaces are also present on the sides and back of the controller for a firmer grip.
The limited edition model will be priced at $89.99 / £84.99 and pre-orders are already open. In addition, a new Gears of War E-Day themed design option will be added to the Xbox Design Lab. This special artwork was created by British illustrator Luke Preece, who also works in the metal music world.
The Design Lab version features two crossed Chainsaw Lancers surrounded by enemy skulls. Players can customize the controller with additional options such as metallic triggers, D-pad, rubber side and back grips, and personal engraving. This Gears of War E-Day themed design will also be available on Design Lab on September 30th.
