State of Play Announced September 2026: What to Expect?
Sony has announced it will hold two back-to-back State of Play broadcasts on September 3rd. The first presentation will focus on updates from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners, while the second will directly highlight studios based in Japan and Asia. While Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is currently the only game confirmed to be shown, the current schedule leaves plenty of room for Sony to surprise.
What Games Could Be Shown at State of Play in September 2026?
On the PlayStation Studios side, Marvel’s Wolverine is one of the strongest candidates for a final appearance before its September 15th release. There’s also a possibility of a new trailer for God of War Laufey, coming in February 2027, showing the story, world, and Faye’s fighting style in more detail. Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, for which performance capture footage was recently completed, is one of the most anticipated potential surprises of the event.
New content may also be coming to Sony’s existing games. Post-launch updates similar to Returnal for Saros, the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion for Ghost of Yotei (released October 1st), and new characters for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls could be shown. Gran Turismo 8, Until Dawn 2, Media Molecule’s new project, and Bend Studio’s upcoming title are currently only speculation.
On the third-party side, it’s been confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will close its initial run. New footage is also expected for projects like Kingdom Hearts 4, John Wick, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Control Resonant, and Resident Evil: Veronica. The fact that Phantom Blade Zero is releasing on October 28th also increases the likelihood of another brief appearance.
There’s a small possibility of GTA 6 being shown, but given Rockstar’s recent release of a comprehensive Extended Look, it’s best to keep expectations low. While a brief demonstration focusing on PS5 Pro performance is possible, there’s no official confirmation. What’s certain is that Sony is preparing to clarify its fall and 2027 schedule with two separate State of Play broadcasts on September 3rd.
