Ylem’s Cat Became a Social Media Sensation From its Very First Screening
Developed by a small independent studio based in Guangzhou, China, Ylem’s Cat takes players on an action-adventure story set on a dying planet. In the game, we control a young character named Molly, who explores mysterious relics, giant creatures, and secrets buried in the past while searching for her missing mother. However, the real star of the game is Mio, a cat who shares Molly’s heartbeat after saving her life.
Ylem’s Cat Changes Gameplay with its Giant Cat
Mio isn’t just a cute companion who accompanies the player. She can directly participate in combat, attack enemies, and scale up or down as needed. One of the most talked-about scenes in the trailer was when she transformed into a giant creature that Molly could ride on. In her smaller form, she’s expected to explore the environment and uncover hidden details thanks to her curiosity.
The game seems to pay attention to small details to make the cat’s behavior feel more natural. Molly can interact with Mio using the light reflected from her bow, almost as if she were playing with a laser pointer. Scenes like these aim to bring the bond between the characters into the gameplay, rather than just telling it in the story. Mio also supports the player in combat, sometimes leaping onto enemies and disabling them.
The story mentions that Mio is hunted by robotic beings called Sentinels. The fact that Molly and her cat share the same heartbeat suggests that their relationship will be not only emotional but also a fundamental mechanic of the game. The developers say that as they learn to work together in combat, conflicts will become easier, and observing Mio’s behavior during exploration can provide important clues.
There is no definitive release date for Ylem’s Cat yet. Current information suggests the game may be released around 2028. Nevertheless, the first trailer quickly garnered significant attention on social media, and Mio’s realistic movements, in particular, have begun to be compared to Trico from The Last Guardian. Even the first screening made it abundantly clear what the game’s biggest asset is.
