Tetris is Being Adapted as a CG Animated Television Series
Tetris has been one of the most iconic games in the gaming world for years. Now, this classic series is preparing to step into the world of animation. The new CG animation series, announced as Tetris: World Builders, was recently unveiled at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The production is planned to appeal to children aged 6 and up.
Tetris: World Builders Will Tell a Different Story
According to the first information shared, Tetris: World Builders will not directly transfer the block-placement logic of the classic game to the screen. Instead, it will tell a brand new adventure where mysterious Tetrimino pieces falling from the sky change the world. At the center of the story will be a team of young “World Builders” trying to solve this mystery.
The production team aims for the series to not only offer an entertaining adventure but also to support the STEAM approach, encouraging children to think in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. Thus, concepts such as problem-solving, teamwork, and creativity will be a natural part of the story.
The series is still in development. The project is being prepared by TeamTO producers Marco Balsamo and Tara Sibel Demren, while Chuck Williams, known for his experience in video game adaptations, is also an executive producer. Williams previously worked on the Sonic the Hedgehog films.
Maya Rogers, President and CEO of The Tetris Company, stated that Tetris has brought people together around a common gaming language for over forty years. Rogers said that with Tetris: World Builders, they want to expand this universe even further and create a new adventure that emphasizes creativity, exploration, and collaborative building.
The release date for the series has not yet been announced. However, Tetris: World Builders, while poised to join the ranks of video game adaptations that have recently gained momentum, aims to bring the classic puzzle series to a new generation through an entirely different story.
