The Last of Us May Bid Farewell to Screens with It’s Third Season

As The Last of Us prepares to continue its story after the second season, a new statement has emerged regarding the show’s future. Previously, the possibility of a third and fourth season had been discussed, but recent statements suggest the plan may have changed. While there’s no definitive final decision yet, the possibility of the third season being the show’s finale is growing stronger.

The Last of Us Season 3 Will Arrive in 2027 and Could Be the Finale

HBO and Max Content President Casey Bloys confirmed in a statement that The Last of Us season 3 will air in 2027. However, he did not share a specific date. When asked whether the show would end with this season, he said he believes showrunner Craig Mazin plans the third season as the finale.

There’s a small but important distinction here. Craig Mazin hasn’t directly stated yet that “the third season will be the final season.” Last year, there were discussions within the team about the possibility of a third and fourth season. So, plans on HBO’s side may have changed, but the final decision hasn’t been officially sealed yet.

We do know some details about the new season. Kyriana Kratter will reprise her role as Lev, and Michelle Mao will play Yara. It was previously confirmed that the story will this time unfold from Abby’s perspective. For those who played The Last of Us Part II, it’s not hard to guess which part of the story this corresponds to.

For now, there’s no definite release date other than 2027, nor has the full cast been announced. If the third season truly concludes, how HBO will wrap up the remaining story in a single season will be one of the biggest questions. The door seems to be closing for The Last of Us, but the final word hasn’t yet come from Craig Mazin.
