AMD’s New Display Technology will Compete with DLSS 5
AMD has been offering its own solution to NVIDIA’s DLSS technology for years with FSR, but it seems the competition will move to a different level in the next generation. Recent claims suggest that the company is working on a more advanced neural network-based rendering technology that goes beyond the classic upgrade approach. If the information is correct, this system could be one of the most important features of the next-generation RDNA 5 graphics cards.
AMD is Preparing a Neural Network-Based System Similar to DLSS 5
According to Kepler_L2, known for hardware leaks, AMD is working on a neural rendering system similar to the path NVIDIA is following with DLSS 5. However, the leak source has not yet shared the exact workings of the technology. A significant portion of the details revealed consist of predictions about how the system could be implemented.
According to the claims, AMD’s solution could directly use more data from the game engine, such as geometry, BVH, ray tracing data, depth buffers, and material information, instead of just guessing the image from the available frames. This would allow the model to more accurately calculate how objects in the scene interact with light.
It’s also suggested that separate models could be used for lighting and complex surface shading. Kepler_L2 claims AMD is also preparing its own Neural Lighting system. This is thought to follow a similar approach to DLSS 5, but there’s no concrete information yet on how much it will change the overall art design of the image.
The most important detail is on the hardware support side. Rumor has it that this new technology will only work on RDNA 5 GPUs expected in 2027 and will be offered with the next-generation solution called FSR “Diamond”. It’s also suggested that the same technology could be used in Xbox Project Helix. Since AMD hasn’t officially confirmed any of this yet, the information available at the moment is based on strong leaks.
