ETRE Will be the New Obsession for Metroidvania Lovers
Studio Lifeforms has officially announced ETRE, a single-player third-person action-adventure game. Adopting a Metroidvania structure, the game takes place inside a planet-scale alien mind called Orbis. Players will control Xyle and encounter living machines, decaying geometric entities, and factions with completely opposing goals as they search for their lost soulmate, Atel.
ETRE Transforms a Giant Alien Mind into a Metroidvania Map
The most interesting aspect of the game is that the map isn’t a classic planet or city. Orbis is actually a massive world mind on the verge of awakening, and all regions are designed as parts of this living structure. Xyle will gain new abilities throughout his journey and be able to return to previously inaccessible areas, opening up new paths.
On the exploration side, the scanning system will also be important. Players will be able to uncover hidden functions by examining organisms, machines, and structures, and reconstruct the lost past piece by piece. This will allow us to gradually understand not only how Orbis works, but also why it began to awaken.
In combat, players will encounter enemies called Anomalies, Pattern Beings, and Living Geometry. Learning the behavior of these creatures and using the environment to your advantage will be crucial. Instead of offering purely reflex-based action, the game makes understanding the world’s ecology an integral part of the gameplay.
At the heart of the story is the bond between Xyle and Atel. As players follow the trail left behind by Atel, they will encounter different futures for Orbis envisioned by two Etre leaders, Mal and Weyl. Ultimately, the decisions made will determine whether Orbis transforms into a rebalanced living world, a transcendent god-mind, or something far more terrifying.
ETRE will be released on Steam for PC, but a definitive release date has not yet been announced. Given its visual style, massive living map, and decision-driven storyline, it looks set to grab the attention of Metroidvania fans already.
