Captain Price Became the Talk of the Internet Due to a Bug in Modern Warfare 4

While the Modern Warfare 4 beta was ongoing on PC, some players who lowered their graphics settings to improve performance encountered an unexpected surprise. The hair of Captain Price, one of the series’ most iconic characters, didn’t display correctly at low settings, resulting in a rather bizarre appearance. Screenshots leaked onto social media, and Price’s new look quickly became one of the most talked-about jokes of the beta period.

Modern Warfare 4 Gives Captain Price a New Hairstyle

The problem is said to occur especially at low graphics settings. Captain Price’s normally fuller hair and hairline don’t load correctly, causing the character to look quite different. Because Modern Warfare 4 is a visually demanding game, some PC players lower their settings to achieve higher frame rates, and this error manifests itself precisely at this point.

The community, of course, didn’t miss the opportunity. Seeing Price’s bizarre appearance, players started giving the character names like “Lieutenant Cost” and “Captain Value.” Some joked that Price couldn’t afford to go to the barber due to the rising cost of living or that he was having a midlife crisis. The image quickly spread beyond the Call of Duty community, becoming a new game meme.

The funniest part was that Barry Sloane, a player who plays Captain Price, also got involved. Sloane joined in the joke by naming this version of his character “John Halfprice.” Thus, a simple graphical glitch, one of the technical issues during the beta, turned into a small event that the community enjoyed together.

Infinity Ward also announced that they had noticed the error after the images spread. The studio stated that this was not the intended appearance for Captain Price and that the character model would be corrected. When Modern Warfare 4 is run with the correct graphics settings, Price returns to his familiar appearance. However, it’s hard to say that the “Halfprice” version will be easily removed from the internet.
