The Ringside Pass system introduced for WWE 2K26 drew significant criticism because it required players to go through extra steps to access content they had already purchased. Now, it’s being claimed that this system has caused major problems within the development team as well.

WWE 2K26 Ringside Pass Controversy Grows

According to reports, layoffs have occurred at Visual Concepts, and it’s claimed that teams working on WWE games have been particularly hard hit. The exact number of layoffs is unknown. This development, occurring just a few months after WWE 2K26’s release, has brought the post-launch controversies surrounding the game back to the forefront.

At the heart of the controversy is the Ringside Pass system. In previous games in the series, players could directly access content they purchased with the Season Pass model as it was released. Deluxe or Ultimate editions also included additional perks that unlocked locked content. In WWE 2K26, however, this structure was changed, requiring players to progress through the game to access purchased DLC content.

This decision naturally drew criticism from players. Many felt it was unfair that characters they paid for required grinding. Some players began looking for ways to bypass the system’s requirements faster. While 2K patched these methods and made some adjustments to the Ringside Pass, these moves weren’t enough to completely dispel the initial negative reaction.

Although it was later stated that DLC characters were made accessible from the start, for many players, the damage had already been done. Despite WWE 2K26 offering a strong foundation in terms of gameplay, this monetization model overshadowed the conversation surrounding the game.
