According to Kit Harington, Marvel has No Plans for Black Knight
Kit Harington joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2021 with the film Eternals as Dane Whitman. The film’s ending, and especially the post-credits scene, suggested that the character could be preparing for a bigger role as the Black Knight. However, in the years since Eternals, neither a sequel has been announced nor has Harington’s character reappeared in another MCU project.
Kit Harington Doesn’t Expect a Black Knight Return
In his latest statement, Harington said he wants to return to Marvel but doesn’t know of any plans for it. The actor believes the Black Knight is a very powerful character, and that his Ebony Blade side of things hasn’t been developed enough. Despite this, he hasn’t received any new offers or project information from Marvel yet.
The most striking aspect of Black Knight is the dark effect his Ebony Blade has on the character. Harington says this aspect can be powerfully explored through the theme of addiction. According to him, Dane Whitman, who starts with good intentions, gradually transforms into a darker character under the influence of his power. Therefore, Black Knight has significant potential to be used in a standalone story or a different team project.
One of the possibilities that fans have long awaited is a Midnight Sons project. It’s thought that Black Knight could be featured in the same production as darker Marvel characters like Ghost Rider and Blade. However, according to Harington’s statements, there are no official preparations in this direction. Marvel Studios has also not yet announced a definitive project regarding Midnight Sons.
Marvel’s schedule for the coming years is full of major projects such as Avengers: Doomsday, Avengers: Secret Wars, and then X-Men, Ghost Rider, and Black Panther 3. Where Black Knight fits into this plan is currently unclear. While Harington is open to returning to the character, the current situation doesn’t strongly suggest that Dane Whitman will reappear anytime soon.
