Minisforum 895D7 Crushed Steam Machine

Minisforum’s recently released 895D7, with its Ryzen 9 8945HX processor and dedicated graphics card support, has become a noteworthy model among compact systems. The device can also be purchased with a low-profile Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB graphics card. In tests conducted by ETA Prime using SteamOS, this configuration achieved significant performance advantages against Valve’s Steam Machine system.

Minisforum 895D7 Outperforms Steam Machine in 4K Tests

In the Cyberpunk 2077 test, the Minisforum 895D7 achieved an average of 26 FPS at 4K resolution and Ultra settings. The Steam Machine, on the other hand, remained at approximately 19 FPS in the same test. This result shows that the Minisforum system offers approximately 44% higher performance in the game.

The difference is even greater in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. At 4K resolution and Very High settings, the Minisforum 895D7 delivers approximately 77 percent higher performance than the Steam Machine. In the Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered test, the difference reaches up to 127 percent. This clearly demonstrates the advantage of 16 GB of VRAM and the newer RDNA 4 architecture, especially at high resolutions.

The Steam Machine uses an RDNA 3-based graphics card with 8GB of VRAM. While this configuration is more limited for 4K gaming, the RX 9060 XT in Minisforum 895D7 stands out with its higher VRAM capacity and FSR 4 upgrade, offering advantages in frame rate. Therefore, the significant differences in the tests are not entirely unexpected.

Of course, performance comes at a price. The Minisforum 895D7, with an RX 9060 XT, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD, retails for around $1,639. The Steam Machine starts at $1,049, making the Minisforum system approximately $600 more expensive. Despite this, when considering raw performance, the 895D7 offers a significantly stronger alternative to the Steam Machine, especially in 4K gaming.
