Sweet Baby Inc. was Overshadowed by Marvel’s Wolverine

Marvel’s Wolverine continues to be the focus of criticism on various issues since its release. This time, the controversy centers around Sweet Baby Inc., which is said to have acted as a consultant on the project. Daniel Vavra, director of Kingdom Come: Deliverance and co-founder of Warhorse Studios, harshly criticized the company’s role in the game’s development process.

Sweet Baby Inc. Targeted by Criticism After Marvel’s Wolverine

In a social media post, Daniel Vavra questioned Sweet Baby Inc.’s consulting role in the industry. According to Vavra, it’s strange for people with limited experience in game development to guide developers who have been working on AAA projects for years. He even used a very harsh analogy to liken this relationship to “asking a janitor to perform brain surgery.”

Vavra also criticized Sweet Baby Inc. for the commercial failures of some games they had advised on in the past, citing titles like Concord, Unknown 9, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. However, there’s an important distinction here: there’s no verified evidence directly linking the failure of these games to Sweet Baby Inc.’s work. Vavra’s statements reflect his own assessment.

The debate has flared up again over Marvel’s Wolverine. Some players claim Sweet Baby Inc. influenced the game’s character designs, accessibility options, and story choices. However, neither Insomniac Games nor Sony has provided a detailed explanation of which creative decisions were directly shaped by the consulting firm. We also discussed the game’s strengths and weaknesses in our Marvel’s Wolverine review.

The controversy surrounding Sweet Baby Inc. doesn’t seem likely to end anytime soon. While Daniel Vavra’s statement has brought the issue back to the forefront, the extent of the company’s actual influence on Marvel’s Wolverine remains unclear. What’s certain at this stage is that following the release of Marvel’s Wolverine, Sweet Baby Inc. has also begun to be questioned more intensely by players and some developers.
