The Reason Why Fable has Survived for so Many Years…
Fable, due to its years-long development process and delays, has occasionally raised questions. Playground Games’ shift from racing games like Forza to a completely different genre also increased the pressure on the project. Despite this, the game was never shelved, and development continued. Director Ralph Fulton’s recent statements shed more light on why Microsoft gave the project so much time.
Fable Seen as a Crucial Part of Xbox’s DNA
According to Ralph Fulton, many within Xbox see Fable as a vital series in terms of the platform’s DNA. The director says this approach helped the team maintain it throughout the long development process. In other words, despite the delays, the project wasn’t simply considered an ordinary game sitting on a calendar.
Fulton believes the new Fable could also be significant for the gaming world. According to him, the game brings together some ideas rarely seen in other games. Therefore, instead of rushing the development process, the team tried to maintain the highest possible quality. This is partly why the long wait has been so long.
One of the issues the director emphasizes is player choices. Fulton says the story includes decisions that will truly make the player think and have personal consequences. The aim isn’t just to offer good or bad options; it’s to make the player feel the consequences of their decisions more strongly. The choice system was important in previous Fable games, and the new game aims to take it even further.
For Playground Games, the project has also been a major test. The studio has been known for the Forza series for years, but it’s noted that their experience in open-world design has been successfully transferred to Fable. The reason Fable has remained in development for so long is also due to the special position the series holds for Xbox. We will see how patient Microsoft has been when the game is released.
