Beast of Reincarnation Divides Steam Users
Beast of Reincarnation, from Game Freak, the creators of the Pokémon series, generated great excitement from the day it was announced. This post-apocalyptic Soulslike action role-playing game looked quite different from the studio’s usual work. The game has finally been released, but initial reviews clearly show that not everyone is equally satisfied.
Why Did Beast of Reincarnation Receive Mixed Reviews?
Beast of Reincarnation achieved an average score of 76 on OpenCritic, with 64% of critics recommending the game. The range of review scores from 9.4 to 5 clearly demonstrates the divergence in opinion among the press. The situation is even harsher on Steam. Approximately eight hours after its release, the game received over 800 reviews, with only 52% positive.
One of the most frequently cited issues by players is that the world doesn’t feel as vibrant as expected. Some users describe the game as a low-budget production adorned with expensive graphics. Exploration is said to be weak, movement is unnecessarily restricted, and camp locations are strangely placed. The fact that the grand adventure promised in the trailers doesn’t quite live up to expectations is particularly criticized.
The combat system hasn’t convinced everyone either. Some players note that firefights become repetitive too quickly, controls feel confusing, and the camera has problems, especially in confined spaces. The storytelling and voice acting are also not considered sufficiently impressive. However, there is a considerable group of players who appreciate the atmosphere, visual design, and some of the end-of-level encounters.
Technical issues have further amplified the negative reviews. Unstable frame rates, pixelation in cutscenes, and persistent performance problems even with varying graphics settings are reported. Game Freak may be able to alleviate these issues with updates, but initial impressions aren’t very positive. For now, many players think it’s more sensible to wait for a discount or a few major patches for Beast of Reincarnation.
