Crazy Taxi: World Tour Showcases Multiplayer Mode at Gamescom 2026
SEGA released a new multiplayer trailer for Crazy Taxi: World Tour during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. Bringing back the series’ classic arcade spirit with a modern twist, the game won’t be limited to just the story mode starring Axel. The Gamescom presentation showcased both online competition and the return of familiar drivers from the series’ past. Furthermore, players attending the event were able to try out one of the five cities that will be featured in the final game.
Crazy Taxi: World Tour Brings Back Old Characters
The Gamescom trailer featured Gena, B.D. Joe, and Gus. SEGA hasn’t yet fully explained how the multiplayer modes will work, but it has been confirmed that players will be able to compete with friends or rivals from around the world. A first for the series, online multiplayer aims to bring Crazy Taxi’s classic passenger-hauling chaos to a competitive format.
In the main story of Crazy Taxi World Tour, we’ll control Axel. After mysterious masked characters steal Axel’s beloved taxi, the chase escalates into a global adventure. The game will feature five different cities, varying terrains, and driving challenges that differ from city to city. New vehicles can be unlocked and customized with various options.
Those who miss the classic Crazy Taxi experience haven’t been forgotten either. Arcade Mode brings back the fast-paced passenger pickup and time-based racing mechanics of previous games. The game is helmed by series creator Kenji Kanno, and the energetic atmosphere of iconic Crazy Taxi music like The Offspring is preserved in the new installment. Gamescom visitors will also be able to take photos with the series’ iconic Yellow Jack taxi.
Crazy Taxi: World Tour is planned for release in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The exact release date has not yet been announced. SEGA also stated that registration for the closed-network test will continue until August 31st. The new presentation at Gamescom shows that World Tour won’t just rely on nostalgia, but will expand the series’ classic formula with larger cities and online competition.
