LEGO Skylines Officially Announced at Gamescom 2026
Paradox Interactive, Iceflake Studios, and LEGO Group officially announced LEGO Skylines during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. At first glance, the game looks like a LEGO fusion of Cities: Skylines, but it has a much more relaxed, toy-box feel. The goal is still to build, grow, and manage a city from scratch. The difference is that everything is made of LEGO bricks, and the city operates more on a “I make the rules” principle.
LEGO Skylines Makes City Building Easier
You start with a single empty plot of land and build your first house. Then you need to gradually grow the city by addressing basic needs like roads, electricity, water, and food. Up to this point, it follows the classic city-building game logic. However, instead of turning things into a heavy simulation where you constantly track charts and ratios, LEGO Skylines aims to offer a more relaxed and creative structure.
As the city grows, new buildings, services, and decoration options unlock. Players can choose to build a well-organized metropolis or fill the streets with donut shops, parks, museums, and quirky LEGO structures. The official game trailer also emphasizes the idea of ”build your city however you want.” It seems that making the resulting city feel like your own is more important than perfect traffic flow.
On the development side, there’s a familiar name: LEGO Skylines is being developed by Iceflake Studios, who also worked on Cities: Skylines II. This suggests that the city management aspect of the game won’t be entirely superficial. However, the first trailer was quite short and focused more on the LEGO aesthetic, minifigures, and the fun side of city building.
LEGO Skylines is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. A definitive release date hasn’t been announced yet, but the game can be added to wishlists on Steam. The idea of building a city with LEGO sounds incredibly natural; the initial presentation at Gamescom suggests that this combination could result in a more relaxed and enjoyable game than expected.
