The Witcher 3: Remastered Edition Announced at Gamescom 2026
CD Projekt Red officially announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. Furthermore, this new version will not be sold separately to existing players; those who own the game on compatible platforms will receive a free upgrade. The Remastered version will be released on September 29, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Nintendo Switch 2 will also receive the natively functioning new version of the game on the same day.
The Witcher 3: Remastered Edition is More Than Just a Graphics Update
The visual changes are immediately apparent in the first trailer. Improved lighting, revamped visuals, and performance improvements are coming, but CD Projekt Red hasn’t stopped there. The combat system, movement mechanics, and Roach’s control are also being reworked. Witcher mark effects are being updated, and monster behavior will be improved.
Some small but significant features that players have long requested are finally arriving. These include a transmog system that allows you to change the appearance of armor independently of its stats, a revamped skill tree, an expanded photo mode, and new finishing moves. In short, there are enough changes to make even someone who knew the game from 2015 think, “Should I start again?”
Even better, the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions are now included for free to anyone who owns the base game. Save files and cross-progression support will also be preserved. This means that those who want to continue with an old save won’t have to start Geralt’s adventure from scratch.
The release of The Witcher 3: Remastered Edition also serves as preparation for the new Songs of the Past expansion coming in 2027. That expansion will take Geralt to a brand new region called Letten. The Remastered version, coming on September 29th, seems like a great excuse to return to The Witcher 3 until then.
