The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past Shows Gameplay for the First Time
CD Projekt Red released the first gameplay trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. Developed in collaboration with Fool’s Theory, the expansion takes Geralt to a brand new region called Letten. At first glance, this seemingly peaceful place, with its rural traditions, festivals, and tranquil life, hides a dark secret that has long been dormant.
The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past Gives Geralt a New Weapon
In the Gamescom trailer, we had the opportunity to see different regions of Letten, new creatures, and some new abilities Geralt will use. One of the most notable new features is the chain weapon. Geralt will be able to use this new equipment to control enemies in combat and create different attack combinations.
On the story side, it’s confirmed that Geralt will reunite with old friends. While Letten may appear from the outside to be a peaceful region with abundant harvests, festivals, and rural traditions, it’s clear things aren’t as tranquil as expected. It’s stated that Geralt will fight creatures he’s never encountered before and face difficult decisions once again.
Songs of the Past will be the first major story expansion for The Witcher 3 in years. Considering Blood and Wine was released in 2016, Geralt’s return to a brand new adventure is a big deal in itself. Moreover, this expansion will add another chapter to Geralt’s story before The Witcher 4.
The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past will be released in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The exact date hasn’t been announced yet, but the expansion can already be added to wishlists. The first gameplay footage at Gamescom clearly shows that CD Projekt Red isn’t just bringing Geralt back after all these years for nostalgia’s sake; they’re genuinely preparing to try something new.
