Future James Bond Games Entrusted to Amazon and MGM
James Bond is once again making a strong statement in the gaming world after a long hiatus. IO Interactive’s 007: First Light has garnered positive reviews, raising questions about how the series will progress in the future. New statements from Amazon suggest that the Bond brand may be featured not only through licensed projects but also through more directly controlled games.
A New Era May Begin in James Bond Games
Amazon Gaming executive Jeff Gattis stated that 007: First Light was not directly developed by Amazon. This is because the agreement with IO Interactive was completed before Amazon acquired the James Bond IP rights. Therefore, although Amazon now owns the brand, the First Light project is a result of an earlier agreement.
Despite this, Amazon is expected to be more active in future Bond games. According to Gattis’ statement, future projects could be handled by MGM and, theoretically, Amazon Game Studios. This suggests that James Bond games could become a more significant part of Amazon’s own game strategy in the future.
Amazon’s general trend supports this. The company doesn’t want to confine its brands to a single area. The work on God of War, Tomb Raider, and various game adaptations on Prime Video is part of this approach. Amazon aims to expand its brands into a broader entertainment universe by forging stronger links between games, series, and films.
This could open a very interesting door for James Bond. 007: First Light seems to have made a strong start on the espionage side thanks to IO Interactive’s Hitman experience. However, Amazon and MGM having more say in future games could change the direction of the series. If this process is managed correctly, James Bond games could evolve from one-off projects into a regular and larger game universe.
