Intergalactic Filming Completed, Naughty Dog Ready for New Showcase
Naughty Dog has announced that a significant development milestone has been reached for the upcoming sci-fi action game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The studio revealed that the motion capture performances of the actors have been completed and shared a photo of lead actress Tati Gabrielle in her costume. While this doesn’t definitively show how far the game is progressing, it confirms a significant milestone in the development process.
Expectations for a New Intergalactic Debut Strengthened
The completion of the motion capture process is seen as a significant indicator of Intergalactic’s development schedule. Naughty Dog’s previous games have similarly seen releases months after the completion of performance recordings. For example, in Uncharted 4, Nolan North’s recordings ended in October 2015, and the game was released in May 2016. However, it cannot be said that the same timeline will apply to Intergalactic.
The main reason for this is that Naughty Dog has divided its development resources among different projects in recent years. It was reported that a large part of the studio was working on The Last of Us Online, which was canceled in 2023. Therefore, it’s too early to conclude that Intergalactic is very close to release. Nevertheless, the completion of performance footage suggests the project may now be becoming more visible.
Sony’s upcoming State of Play event on September 3rd is also raising expectations. While it hasn’t been confirmed that Intergalactic will be shown at the event, the timing of Naughty Dog’s announcement already suggests the possibility of a new trailer or development update. Some industry sources suggest the game is targeting the second half of 2027, but this date is not yet official.
Intergalactic will be Naughty Dog’s first completely new game since The Last of Us Part II, released in 2020. During that time, the studio has primarily focused on remaster and port projects. Therefore, the re-showing of the game will be important not only for Intergalactic but also for seeing how Naughty Dog’s new era will take shape.
