The Release Date for Aniimo, a Free-to-Play Pokémon Rival, has been Announced
Aniimo, developed by Pawprint Studio with FunPlus support, has clarified its release schedule with a new trailer released during Gamescom Opening Night Live. This free-to-play open-world RPG will take players to a vast continent called Idyll, offering the opportunity to capture, evolve, and use hundreds of different creatures in battle. Console and PC versions will be released first, while mobile players will have to wait a little longer.
Aniimo Comes with Over 200 Creatures and a Twining System
Aniimo will be released on September 16, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. On PC, the game will be available via Steam and Epic Games Store. The mobile version will be available a week later, on September 23, on the App Store and Google Play. The game is entirely free-to-play.
The game will feature over 200 Aniimo creatures on launch day. Some of these creatures may appear in different forms depending on environmental conditions such as weather and biomes. Areas like Driftwise Meadow, Sandcastle Hill, and Rosetower Wood will also have their own unique creature ecologies. Players will encounter different systems not only for capturing and fighting creatures, but also for developing them.
One of the most notable mechanics will be Twining. This system allows players to merge with their own Aniimo and gain new movement abilities such as flying, underground movement, or faster running. Twining will also allow puzzles to be solved from the creature’s perspective, directly changing the combat system.
Aniimo isn’t just focused on single-player exploration. The Diamond Egg Heist PvP mode pits teams against each other, while tools like the Horn and Flute allow players to request help from other players in the open world. The Homeland system will offer the possibility to build a base, decorate, cultivate resources, and create various entertainment areas. Advanced Edition and Collector’s Edition packages are also available for pre-order on consoles.
