Lofsöng Appears at Gamescom 2026 with a New Trailer
Developed by Unrelated Studio, Lofsöng places players in the ashes of a long-dead world. We control a childlike character accompanied by a shape-shifting, origami-like companion. There are no maps or dialogues; progression is entirely based on listening to the environment, examining structures, and deciphering the signs left behind by the world.
Lofsöng Asks Us to Read the World Through Sound
The game’s most important mechanic revolves around sound and resonance. Certain structures in the environment react to the sounds the player makes, opening new paths or revealing memories of the world’s past. Instead of classic quest markers, the development team aims to emphasize the player’s attention and ability to interpret the sounds around them.
Lofsöng’s world consists of massive brutalist structures, grey deserts, and vast regions under the influence of nuclear winter. Players will be able to utilize different forms of their origami companion as they progress through areas called the Dust Sea. This character can transform into a kite, glider, or sailboat when needed, making it possible to reach new areas.
The storytelling also deviates from conventional methods. The game features no dialogue, and information about the past is conveyed through stone, architecture, and sound. Some clues are not presented sequentially, requiring players to piece them together on their own. The development team also states that the game’s mysteries will continue even after the credits.
A definitive release date for Lofsöng has not yet been announced. The game is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S; Play Anywhere support will also be offered on Xbox. Previously shown as playable at the Tribeca Festival 2026, the game carves out a unique place for itself among indie games with its atmosphere and world that communicates through sound instead of words.
