Mega Man: Dual Override Showed Proto Man at Gamescom 2026

Capcom released a new trailer for Mega Man: Dual Override during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. First announced at The Game Awards 2025, the game combines classic 2D run-and-gun gameplay with modern 3D graphics. The Gamescom presentation showcased the game’s combat system, new enemies, and especially the return of Proto Man, a beloved character from the series, more clearly.

Mega Man: Dual Override Brings Back Proto Man

The biggest surprise of the new trailer was the confirmation of Proto Man’s appearance in the game. Proto Man, one of the long-time favorite characters in the Mega Man series, was shown in a short scene, revealing that Dual Override will not only feature new characters but also strongly connect to the series’ past.

The trailer also featured a new boss called Twinkle Girl. While the gameplay retains Mega Man’s classic running, jumping, and shooting mechanics, the visuals have been completely modernized. Capcom seems to aim for more spectacular animations and more detailed scenes without disrupting the rhythm of the older games.

Gamescom 2026 holds special significance for Mega Man: Dual Override because it will be the first time the game can be played publicly. Thanks to Capcom’s demo at the event, visitors will be able to experience the new combat system and level design firsthand. The game was previously announced for 2027 and is one of Capcom’s most important titles at Gamescom.

Capcom is also preparing a small crossover between Mega Man and Pragmata. It has been announced that Pragmata will receive Mega Man-themed costumes. A definitive release date for Mega Man: Dual Override has not yet been shared, but the game is planned to arrive on all major platforms in 2027.
