Sea of Remnants Showed Its New Trailer at Gamescom 2026
Sea of Remnants, developed by NetEase Games and Joker Studio, made its debut with new footage during Gamescom Opening Night Live. This free-to-play ocean-themed open-world RPG centers on a puppet sailor who has lost his memory. Players will explore different islands, build their own crew, battle at sea, and influence how the pirate city of Orbtopia changes over time with their decisions.
Sea of Remnants Closed Beta to Begin in December
Along with the new trailer at Gamescom, it was announced that the game’s closed beta test will begin in December 2026. Pre-registration for the test is also open. The core gameplay loop of Sea of Remnants revolves around sailing, exploring, gathering resources, and then returning to Orbtopia to achieve lasting advancements.
Sea voyages will also feature roguelike elements. Enemies encountered, bosses, potential crew members, equipment, and skill upgrades will change with each journey. Therefore, players will need to change their crew and combat strategy according to the conditions, rather than sticking to a single team. On land, turn-based combat and exploration of different island regions will take center stage.
The new presentation also showed lush islands, mysterious ruins, and naval battles with cannons flying through the air. The game world won’t be limited to small boats; players will be able to build their own fleets and encounter different factions over time. NetEase had previously shown different fleets and factions as important parts of the game in previously released footage.
There is no definitive release date yet for Sea of Remnants. The game is planned for development on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, iOS, and Android. Gamescom 2026 visitors will be able to try out a special demo of approximately 20 minutes during the event and encounter Mermaid Morian by building their own teams in the Echo Isle region.
