NVIDIA RTX 50 SUPER Faces High GDDR7 Costs
It has been claimed that there is a significant delay in the development process of the NVIDIA RTX 50 SUPER series. According to new information, NVIDIA has asked its partners to halt preparations for the release of the graphics cards, even though initial samples have reached some manufacturers. While the company has not shared any reason or new schedule, it is alleged that the delay is due to the increasing cost of high-capacity GDDR7 memory modules.
NVIDIA RTX 50 SUPER Series Delayed by GDDR7 Prices
According to the allegations, the price of a 3GB GDDR7 memory module ranges from $60 to $70. Considering that standard 2GB GDDR7 modules can be obtained for approximately $20, NVIDIA is facing a cost that is almost three times higher for only 50% more capacity. It seems quite difficult to cover this difference without reflecting it in the sales price of the graphics cards.
It is claimed that the RTX 5080 SUPER model will offer a total of 24 GB of GDDR7 memory using eight 3 GB modules with a 256-bit memory bus. In this configuration, the memory alone could cost between $480 and $560. Compared to the approximately $160 cost when using 2 GB modules on the same card, the increase could be between $320 and $400.
A similar problem may affect the RTX 5070 SUPER model. It is claimed that the card will need six 3 GB modules to reach 18 GB of memory while maintaining a 192-bit data bus. In such a configuration, the memory cost could increase from approximately $120 to between $360 and $420. Passing this increase on to consumers in this more price-sensitive segment may be more difficult for NVIDIA.
It is also suggested that the delay may affect the RTX 5050 9 GB model. NVIDIA may need to wait for high-density GDDR7 prices to drop, negotiate more favorable deals with manufacturers, or release the cards at higher prices. The cancellation of the NVIDIA RTX 50 SUPER series has not been confirmed. However, until the company announces a new release schedule, the release dates of the models remain uncertain.
