PlayStation isn’t so Unhappy with Saros’ Performance

Despite receiving strong review scores at launch, Saros made headlines with claims that its sales didn’t meet expectations. This naturally raised some concerns about Housemarque’s future. However, statements made in PlayStation’s latest financial report suggest that the company isn’t just looking at the game based on first-week sales figures and is actually satisfied with the current progress.

Saros Steadily Grows Its Player Base

PlayStation’s latest financial report shared with investors specifically addressed Saros. The report praised Housemarque’s new game’s average Metacritic score of 88 and noted that its user base is steadily expanding. This statement clearly shows that even if the game didn’t experience a rapid sales boom after launch, it continues to gain new players.

PlayStation isn't so Unhappy with Saros' Performance

It was previously suggested that Saros’ initial sales performance had a lukewarm start. However, it was thought that positive player reviews and word-of-mouth recommendations could work in the game’s favor in the long run. It seems this expectation is slowly being realized. While its challenging gameplay and repetitive nature may not appeal to everyone, it appears that those who love the game have built a fairly loyal community.

This development is also pleasing for Housemarque. Their previous game, Returnal, while not breaking sales records, became one of PlayStation’s most acclaimed exclusives. Similarly, Saros shows that smaller but stronger games can find their place on the platform. Clearly, an approach where not every project needs to sell millions means a much more diverse catalog for players.

Of course, it’s important to remember that the report was presented directly to investors by PlayStation, and the overall picture may have been portrayed as positively as possible. Nevertheless, the company’s emphasis on Saros’ growing audience is not a detail to be underestimated. Saros’ performance is progressing more healthily than its initial sales figures, and there is currently no strong indication that PlayStation has lost confidence in Housemarque.
