Rainbow Six Tactics was Officially Announced at Gamescom 2026
Ubisoft officially unveiled Rainbow Six Tactics during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The game will be connected to the Rainbow Six Siege universe, but will significantly deviate from the series’ usual FPS gameplay. This time, players will take on the role of Six, the leader of the Rainbow team, and manage various operations from a top-down perspective.
Rainbow Six Tactics Moves Towards an XCOM-Style Structure
Rainbow Six Tactics is being developed as a single-player, turn-based tactical game. Players will be able to form four-person teams during missions and choose from a total of 15 operators selected from Rainbow Six Siege. The game’s story will also focus on the restructuring of the Rainbow unit in the period after the 10th anniversary of Siege.
In gameplay, exploration, positioning, cover usage, line of sight, and coordinated attacks will be important. One of the systems Ubisoft showcased is the “breach” mechanic. Players will be able to blast through walls, destroy cover, and open up entirely new attack routes to reach enemies. In this respect, the game attempts to bring the most familiar elements of Rainbow Six Siege to a turn-based structure.
Ubisoft says Rainbow Six Tactics will include more than 50 missions. Mission areas will range from ancient ruins in Egypt to a high-security prison in Denmark. It is also stated that there will be no microtransactions and the experience is designed to be entirely single-player.
Rainbow Six Tactics is planned for release in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. On PC, it will be published via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Ubisoft Store; GeForce NOW and Blacknut support will also be offered. Rainbow Six’s return to a completely single-player format, something we haven’t seen in a long time, already makes it one of the most exciting surprises of Gamescom 2026.
