Gears of War: E-Day Story Trailer Released at Gamescom
The Coalition released a new, approximately two-minute story trailer for Gears of War: E-Day during Gamescom Opening Night Live. Set 14 years before the first game in the series, the trailer returns to the catastrophic events of Emergence Day, when the Locust Horde emerged from underground and attacked humanity. The new footage provides a closer look at what Marcus and Dom experienced in the early days of this chaos.
Gears of War: E-Day Focuses on Marcus and Dom’s Story
The new trailer particularly highlights the bond between Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. The devastation the two characters faced in the early days of the Locust attacks is shown not only through large-scale battles but also through more personal moments. As The Coalition has previously stated, E-Day aims to revitalize the horror aspect of the series and make the Locusts truly feel threatening again.
On the gameplay side, the classic Gears formula isn’t completely abandoned. The cover system, close-quarters combat, and heavy weapon use are still central to the experience, but the movement and cover mechanics have been redesigned from scratch. The Coalition aims to give the player more options in combat by offering more cover types at different elevations and smoother transitions.
Gears of War: E-Day won’t be limited to just the story mode. In addition to the classic Versus experience, the game will feature a 12-player Horde Siege mode. In this new PvE structure, three different teams will complete their missions on the same battlefield, culminating in a grand finale.
Gears of War: E-Day will be released on October 6, 2026 for Xbox Series X/S and PC and will be added to Game Pass from day one. In addition to the single-player campaign, split-screen co-op and online co-op gameplay will also be supported. The new trailer from Gamescom once again showed that the game will portray Emergence Day not just as a great battle, but as a personal catastrophe that changes Marcus and Dom’s lives.
